The Story Behind the Scents

Hi, I'm Bibi Burness

Perfume lover. Fragrance curator. The nose behind Designer Perfume Fragrances.

Why I Started This

Look, I'll be straight with you — I'm obsessed with perfume. Always have been. But growing up in South Africa, designer fragrances felt impossibly out of reach. R3,000+ for a 50ml bottle? That's wild money when you've got rent and load-shedding candles to budget for.

Then I discovered the world of fragrance alternatives — scents that share the same DNA, the same olfactory families, often even similar note pyramids as the big designer names. And honestly? Some of them are just as good, if not better. That's not shade at the designers — it's just the truth of modern perfumery.

So I built Designer Perfume Fragrances to be the resource I wished I had when I started my fragrance journey. No gatekeeping. No snobbery. Just honest, SA-flavoured advice on finding scents that make you feel amazing without emptying your wallet.

What I Do Here

Write the Reviews

Every editorial on this site is written by me — no AI-generated fluff, no copied marketing copy. If I say a scent is a beast-mode compliment magnet, I've tested it myself.

SA-first perspective. Every recommendation considers our climate, our budget ranges, and where you can actually buy it in South Africa.
