Sol de Janeiro
Cheirosa 62
Almost nobody meets Cheirosa 62 in a fragrance aisle. They meet it as a body cream, borrowed from a friend or bought on a whim, and then spend a while trying to work out what the smell is called. Pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla is a strange thing to want to smell like, and yet it worked so completely that Sol de Janeiro ended up building an entire fragrance line backwards out of a tub of moisturiser.
Cheirosa 62 is the smell of Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, bottled. That is the whole appeal and Sol de Janeiro has never pretended otherwise. Pistachio and almond up front, jasmine and heliotrope in the middle, then salted caramel, vanilla and sandalwood underneath. It is a warm, nutty, unmistakably edible scent, and it is one of the few gourmands people wear happily in December heat.
There is an important distinction to make before you buy. Cheirosa 62 exists as a hair and body perfume mist, which is what most people mean when they talk about it and which arrived in 2018 as Brazilian Crush, and as a stronger eau de parfum that followed in 2020. This page is about the mist. The mist is light on purpose. Two to four hours if you are lucky, less on hair, and it sits close. If you want projection and a full day of wear, the eau de parfum is the version to look for, and in 2026 the brand added an Intense mist with a higher concentration and a solar amber accord as well.
The trick everyone eventually works out is layering. Bum Bum Cream first, mist over the top, and the scent lasts noticeably longer because the cream gives it something to hold on to.
Sol de Janeiro has never officially credited a perfumer for the mist. The 62 refers to 1962, the year the brand takes its Rio reference points from, and cheirosa is Brazilian Portuguese slang for smelling deliciously good.
Where to buy it, as at August 2026: Woolworths has the 90ml from R610 and also stocks the eau de parfum from about R655. Takealot lists the 90ml at R610 too, but its 240ml sits at R1,599 against Arc Store's R915 for the same size, so check the millilitres before you compare prices. Clicks carries the range online without showing a price on the category page.

Adds an uplifting citrus accessory to anything richer — works whenever a scent feels too heavy for the weather.
Layering Tip
Spray the heavier scent first, then the lighter one on top. Start with two scents — more than three quickly becomes muddled. Always test on skin first.
AI Review Summary
Synthesised from fragrance data
Cheirosa 62 is essentially Brazilian Bum Bum Cream in spray form, and that is precisely the point — pistachio and almond up front, a soft jasmine and heliotrope heart, then salted caramel, vanilla and sandalwood settling into something warm, nutty and thoroughly edible. It is one of those rare gourmands that works in December heat rather than feeling cloying, which makes it a natural fit for South African summers at the beach or a braai. Performance on the mist is modest at best, sitting close to the skin for three to five hours, so if you want genuine projection and longevity, seek out the eau de parfum version instead. The layering trick worth knowing: apply Bum Bum Cream first and mist over the top — the cream gives the scent something to grip and you will get noticeably more wear out of it. Best suited to anyone who leans into sweet, skin-close femininity without apology.
