Gaultier reimagines the Garden of Eden with his usual wink: the bottle is a golden female torso with a fig leaf, and the forbidden fruit is a juicy pear. La Belle Le Parfum intensifies the 2019 original with narcotic datura — the 'moonflower' — over a molten vanilla-tonka base that purrs through winter nights. It's seductive in the classic French sense: sweet, but with intent. Pair it with the men's Le Male Le Parfum for couple-goals sillage. Temptation, bottled and unapologetic.

Jean Paul Gaultier's fragrance history is unusually well credentialed for a fashion house. Classique arrived in 1993 in the corseted torso bottle, and Le Male followed in 1995 from a twenty-five-year-old Francis Kurkdjian, a debut that turned him into one of the most consequential perfumers of his generation. La Belle, launched in 2019, is the modern feminine pillar of that lineage, and La Belle Le Parfum is its intense reading, first released in 2021.

Gaultier keeps the formula deliberately short, and says so. The house lists it as pear, vanilla and tonka bean, and describes the composition as green pear notes mixed with jasmine, tonka bean and vanilla, filed under an olfactive family it calls luscious amber and rated at the maximum on its own intensity scale. That brevity is the point. The pear opens cold and juicy, almost aquatic, and it is the only bright thing in the fragrance; within fifteen minutes it is folded into a heavy, creamy vanilla with a jasmine that reads more as texture than as flower. Tonka bean thickens everything into something close to custard, and the drydown is warm, sweet, slightly boozy and very persistent.

It belongs to evenings, and to cold ones. It suits a Cape winter dinner or a night out, and it is genuinely too much for a hot afternoon, where the vanilla turns syrupy and the pear vanishes. One spray is a decision; three is an announcement. The bottle, red and black lacquer with a gold rose at the neck, tells you as much.

Two honest caveats. First, performance is enormous, ten hours and more with sillage that fills a car, so restraint matters more here than with most perfumes. Second, the name has been used more than once: Fragrantica lists both the 2021 La Belle Le Parfum and a later edition under the same title, and Gaultier currently sells it as an eau de parfum intense. If you are matching a bottle you already own, compare the batch and the box rather than trusting the name alone. Gaultier does not credit a perfumer for this release.

Spray the heavier scent first, then the lighter one on top. Start with two scents — more than three quickly becomes muddled. Always test on skin first.

AI Review Summary

Synthesised from fragrance data

La Belle Le Parfum is the kind of oriental that earns its place in a rotation — juicy pear and bergamot open things up with an inviting brightness before the real magic settles in: a creamy, slightly narcotic floral heart of jasmine, datura and orange blossom that feels polished rather than heavy. The drydown is where it truly shines, with vanilla and tonka bean wrapping around smooth sandalwood and a grounding thread of vetiver that stops the sweetness from becoming cloying. With 8 to 12 hours of wear and a moderate to strong sillage, it leaves exactly the kind of trail you want people to notice without needing to announce yourself. This one is best saved for cooler evenings — a dinner date, a winter night out, or any occasion where you want to feel quietly, confidently glamorous. If you gravitate towards warm white florals with a sensual vanilla base and appreciate a fragrance with real staying power, La Belle Le Parfum is well worth discovering.
