Walk into Edgars' fragrance section anywhere in South Africa and Explorer will be on the shelf. It has been one of the store's most consistent masculine performers since its 2019 launch — and for a very simple reason: it smells like it costs twice what it does. The opening is clean and citrus-driven — bergamot with a hint of pink pepper and clary sage. It's crisp and masculine without being sharp. Within 20 minutes, the heart emerges: haitian vetiver and leather, earthy and refined, giving the fragrance its backbone. The base is where Explorer earns its reputation: Indonesian patchouli, ambroxan, and cacao pod create a warm, woody depth that lingers for hours and is frequently compared (favourably) to Creed Aventus at a fraction of the price. Performance is genuinely good for the price range — expect 7–10 hours for most wearers. Sillage is moderate, appropriate for office wear.
