Maison Crivelli is built on a single idea that its founder Thibaud Crivelli repeats consistently: every fragrance should come from a specific sensory shock, a moment that could not be predicted. For Oud Maracujá the house tells the story directly on its own page, describing Crivelli discovering oud in the most unexpected of ways, in huts on stilts in the middle of a secluded oud forest. Released in 2023 and composed by Jordi Fernández, who Maison Crivelli credits by name, it is one of the more genuinely original oud fragrances of recent years.

The house does not use a conventional pyramid. It lists a passion fruit accord, saffron and Turkish rose absolute alongside an oud accord, benzoin, cistus absolute, a leather accord, patchouli, vanilla and akigalawood, and calls the fragrance an exotic contrast between the thirst-quenching freshness of passion fruit and the tropical warmth of oud. It is sold as an extrait de parfum at thirty-two percent concentration, which the house publishes openly.

The passion fruit is startling. For the first twenty minutes it is loud, tart and unmistakably tropical, almost like the fruit cut open, and it sits directly on top of a dark, resinous oud without any transition. That collision is the whole point. Saffron adds a leathery, slightly medicinal bridge, the Turkish rose gives a jammy sweetness underneath, and as the fruit fades what remains is a rich, animalic leather-oud with benzoin and vanilla smoothing the edges. Akigalawood keeps the base peppery and woody rather than syrupy.

This is an evening fragrance for people who want to be asked what they are wearing. It suits cool air and formal occasions and it is far too assertive for a warm daytime office.

At thirty-two percent concentration the performance is what you would expect: twelve hours or more on skin, heavy projection through the first four, and a clothing trail that outlasts the week.
