Xtra Milk

DedCool was founded by Carina Chaz in Los Angeles, and the brand's own account has her growing up in a household immersed in clean beauty and experimenting with formulations in the family laboratory as a teenager. The house builds everything around two ideas: that fragrance formulations should be vegan, cruelty-free and biodegradable, and that the rigid gender roles of the industry have been overdue for modernising for decades. Xtra Milk, released in 2022, is the amplified version of the brand's Milk scent, and DedCool describes it in three words that get to the point: a universal musk, amplified.

The published note list is deliberately short. DedCool gives bergamot on top, white musk at the heart and amber at the base, and nothing else. No perfumer is credited. That minimalism is a design decision rather than an omission, because the fragrance is meant to read as skin rather than as a composition, and the brand's own copy says it smells like you but better.

In practice it opens with a brief flash of citrus that disappears within minutes, and after that it is musk, warm and slightly powdery, with an amber softness underneath that gives it a faintly creamy quality rather than the laundry-clean effect that white musk often produces. There is a light animalic edge in the base that keeps it interesting on skin. It is not a milk-and-sugar gourmand despite the name; the milkiness is textural.

It is an everyday fragrance and it is unusually good in heat, where it stays close and soft instead of turning sharp. On the humid KwaZulu-Natal coast it behaves better than most amber-musks. It is genderless in fact as well as in marketing.

The honest note on performance is that this is a skin scent by design. Four to six hours with very little projection is normal, and people who want to be smelled across a room will be disappointed. DedCool builds the Milk family specifically for layering, and Milk, Xtra Milk, Mineral Milk and Mochi Milk are separate scents intended to be combined with each other and with the brand's other formats rather than worn as alternatives. Judged as a base layer or a quiet signature, it does its job well.
