Détour Rouge by Al Haramain opens with a clean, aromatic brightness that feels polished straight away: you get the freshness of bergamot, the gentle herbal lift of lavender, and a warm spark of cardamom that gives the whole thing a smooth, spicy edge. On skin, it quickly leans into its sweeter side, but in a refined way rather than a syrupy one. The heart brings in tobacco and black tea, and that’s where you start to notice the fragrance becoming richer, darker, and a little more textured — like warm tea leaves beside a soft tobacco sweetness, wrapped in a faintly balsamic glow. As it dries down, the vanilla, tonka bean, and musk create a creamy, long-lasting finish that feels cosy, slightly powdery, and very inviting. The sillage is strong, so you won’t need much to be noticed, and at around R480, it offers excellent value for a scent that performs this well. You can easily wear it to the office if you go light on the spritzes, but it really shines on a date night, a chilled evening out, or even a breezy summer braai when you want something warm and memorable. It’s best suited to you if you enjoy sweet oriental scents with presence, elegance, and all-day staying power.
