Expect a polarising one. Lavender and black pepper open it crisp and slightly barbershop, herbal rather than sweet, and for a moment it seems headed somewhere classic. What follows instead is coconut water, and the emphasis belongs on water: thin, cool and watery rather than the creamy coconut of a suntan lotion. Salt and iris sit alongside it, producing a mineral, powdery effect that a lot of people read as skin, sunscreen or expensive hair product depending on their chemistry. Vanilla in the base is restrained to the point of being easy to miss, and incense adds a dry, faintly smoky finish. The overall impression is airy, saline and powdery rather than gourmand. It is aimed at men and works best in heat and humidity, which makes the Durban coast or a summer holiday its ideal setting. Daytime, casual, beach-adjacent. It would be a strange choice for a formal winter evening. Performance is moderate. Most wearers report five to seven hours with soft projection after the first hour, and it holds much better on clothing than skin. Two things buyers should know. First, this is not a clone. Lattafa placed it in the Asad family, but the original Asad is a Dior Sauvage Elixir tribute and Zanzibar smells nothing like it, so do not buy it expecting that profile. No credible designer dupe claim attaches to it. Second, the reception has been genuinely divided. Its Fragrantica average sits at 3.26 out of 5 from more than 3,600 votes, which is low by Lattafa standards and reflects a real split: some wearers find it fresh, unusual and grown-up, while a substantial minority describe a stale, nutty or soapy quality in the opening that never resolves. That is unusually harsh feedback for a brand whose releases typically hover near four. Sample before you commit if that is an option, because this is the sort of fragrance that either suits your skin completely or does not work at all. It is genuinely interesting either way, and it was composed by a properly credentialled perfumer, which is rare at this price.
