Montale Full Incense is one of those fragrances that walks in before you do. On first spray, you get a sharp, golden blast of incense and elemi, lifted by a spicy clove bite and a soft chamomile edge that keeps it from feeling harsh. Very quickly, the scent settles into a dry, smoky woody heart where vetiver, cedarwood and patchouli give you a dusty, textured feel, almost like warm timber and sacred smoke drifting through a cool room. As it develops on skin, the base turns richer and smoother: incense resin, amber and labdanum add a deep, resinous glow, while a touch of vanilla rounds off the edges just enough to make it wearable rather than austere. This is not a shy fragrance, shame. The sillage is strong and the longevity is truly eternal, so a couple of sprays is plenty. It shines beautifully in colder weather, at a late dinner, an evening out, or any time you want to feel composed, confident and a little mysterious. It definitely shares DNA with the same fragrance family as classic churchy incense scents, but it has its own hot, woody, smoky personality.
