Blood orange and pear give a juicy, slightly tart opening, sharpened by pink pepper and cardamom so it never reads as simple fruit. The heart turns rich fast: tuberose and jasmine bring heady white-floral creaminess, cognac adds boozy warmth, and heliotrope powders the edges. Underneath, Brazilian rosewood provides a smooth woody link into a base that is genuinely loaded, with agarwood, vanilla, amber, tonka bean, sandalwood, patchouli and cashmeran all pulling toward a soft, sweet, slightly powdery finish.

On paper that is a great deal of material. In practice it is a maximalist fruity-floral-woody that some people find rich and others find muddled, and the community verdict has been the harshest of any fragrance in this group: 3.49 out of 5 from around 865 Fragrantica users. The usual criticism is that the elements never fully resolve into one picture, and that projection can turn odd at a distance. That is worth knowing before you buy and it is the reason to test rather than order blind.

It is not a copy of a designer original. Opulent Red belongs to Lattafa's Opulent line alongside Musk and Oud, and was built as a house composition rather than an interpretation of anything.

Performance reports vary widely, from a few hours to most of a day, which usually points to a formula that behaves very differently across skin types. Assume moderate rather than heroic and be prepared to reapply if you need it into the evening.

Where it works is dressed-up occasions in cool weather: a winter dinner, a function, anywhere a big white-floral statement is welcome. It is nominally unisex but reads distinctly feminine on most people. If you already love tuberose and boozy gourmand-woods it is worth a sample. If you prefer clean and linear, this is not the bottle for you. It is also the sort of fragrance that rewards a single spray rather than three, since the density of the base means more product does not so much increase projection as flatten the composition into a general sweetness.
