Qaed Al Fursan starts with pineapple, and it is worth being precise about what kind. This is not a fresh tropical pineapple but a candied, slightly syrupy one, given an unexpected metallic-spicy lift by saffron. That saffron is the fragrance's signature and it distinguishes it immediately from the many pineapple masculines on the market. The heart brings balsam fir, resinous and green, with jasmine softening the edges. Underneath, cedar, amber and a restrained agarwood build a dry, warm, slightly smoky base that pulls the sweetness back towards something wearable.

You will see this sold as a Creed Aventus alternative. Be sceptical. The two share a pineapple opening and a woody-ambery direction, and that is roughly where the similarity stops. Aventus is smoky, birch-driven and drier; Qaed Al Fursan is sweeter, more resinous and carries an oud facet that Aventus does not have. Anyone who has worn both will tell you they are recognisably different in a side-by-side test. Consider it a pineapple-woody in the same broad family rather than a substitute, and if a genuine Aventus profile is what you want, other houses target it more directly.

Performance is where it justifies itself. Eight hours or more is the norm, with strong projection early on, and it holds up in warm weather in a way many sweet masculines do not. That makes it one of the safer choices for a summer braai or a hot day in Gauteng, where a heavier amber would be a mistake.

It is listed as unisex and wears that way, though most buyers are men. It suits daytime, casual and semi-formal wear, and it is confident without being aggressive. Its main limitation is that the sweetness sets a ceiling on formality.

At 4.21 across more than 7,000 Fragrantica ratings it is one of Lattafa's longest-standing successes, dating back to 2016, well before the house became a social media phenomenon. Lattafa later released Qaed Al Fursan Untamed, a darker, spicier variant that is often confused with the original, so check the bottle colour before ordering.

Spray the heavier scent first, then the lighter one on top. Start with two scents — more than three quickly becomes muddled. Always test on skin first.

AI Review Summary

Synthesised from fragrance data

Qaed Al Fursan opens with a punchy trio of ginger, cinnamon, and mint that feels simultaneously fiery and fresh, before settling into a smooth agarwood and lavender heart that gives it real depth and character. The dry-down is where it truly wins, landing in a rich, creamy vanilla, tonka, and amber base that's addictive without tipping into overly sweet territory. Performance is genuinely impressive — expect 10 to 12 hours of heavy sillage, so two or three sprays is all you need unless you're going for full room-announcement mode. It leans masculine despite the unisex label, making it a brilliant pick for date nights, cool evenings out, or any occasion where you want to leave a lasting impression — just keep it away from close-contact summer heat unless you want to overwhelm the room. At under R1,000, it punches well above its price point and is an easy recommendation for anyone drawn to bold, sweet-spicy orientals with serious staying power.
