If you’re drawn to oud but want something with real presence, Montale Intense Black Aoud is not here to whisper; it strides in with confidence. On skin, the opening hits with a sharp flicker of lemon and mandarin, quickly braided with saffron and geranium, so you get a bright, spicy edge before the oud settles in. That Cambodian oud is rich and earthy, but Montale softens the roughness with a deep rose accord and a patchouli heart that feels damp, resinous, and slightly smoky rather than sweet. As it dries down, the leather, amber, guaiacwood, sandalwood and white musk create a creamy, almost velvety trail that clings for ages.
