When Yara broke TikTok, Lattafa did the obvious and delicious thing: made it candy. Yara Candy keeps the creamy vanilla-musk base fans love and tops it with strawberry bonbons and sugared fruit - a scent that smells like opening a sweet shop door. It is unapologetically playful, built for Gen-Z wardrobes and birthday-gift budgets, and the turquoise bottle photographs as well as the fragrance wears. Sweet-tooth perfumery done with zero pretension and serious staying power.

Blackcurrant and green tangerine snap open first, tart and juicy, with enough bite to stop the sweetness landing all at once. It does land, though. Within minutes a strawberry fizz-candy accord takes over, unmistakably sherbet-like, all sugar and sparkle, with gardenia providing a creamy white-floral cushion so the fruit has somewhere soft to sit. The dry-down turns powdery and warm: vanilla, clean musk, a touch of amber and sandalwood giving it a woody backbone that most candy fragrances skip entirely. That base is what saves it from smelling like a children's sweet shop and lets it wear for hours without becoming tiring. This is aimed squarely at younger women and casual wear, and it does that job well. Spring and warm days, shopping, campus, coffee dates. One practical warning: sweet fruity fragrances amplify in heat, so on a hot afternoon or around a braai two sprays will go a lot further than you expect. Three or four is too many. Longevity is decent at around six to eight hours, with the strongest projection in the first two before it settles into a close powdery-vanilla warmth. The Yara line generally performs well and this sits comfortably in the middle of it. Lattafa did not market Yara Candy as a copy of anything, and no established dupe claim exists for it. Reviewers reaching for a reference point most often mention Dior Poison Girl, and the comparison is fair in spirit: both are sweet fruity-vanilla scents with a powdery finish. The differences matter, though. Poison Girl is built around almond and rose, more complex and better blended, while Yara Candy is more literal, fruitier and more obviously a confectionery scent. Treat it as a cheerful alternative in the same mood rather than a replacement. Released in 2024 with a 3.85 average from more than 3,000 Fragrantica votes, it is well liked without being the strongest entry in the range, which is worth knowing if you are choosing between it and the original Yara.

✍️ Did You Know?

  • Reviewers most often compare it to Dior Poison Girl, though Lattafa never marketed it as a dupe and the two differ in the heart, with Poison Girl built on almond and rose
  • Yara is Lattafa's most extended feminine line, now including Yara, Yara Tous, Yara Moi and Yara Candy, and it drove much of the brand's international growth
  • The original Yara is widely compared to Van Cleef and Arpels Orchidee Vanille
  • Strawberry fizz candy is a fantasy accord constructed by the perfumer rather than a natural extract, since strawberry cannot be distilled into a usable perfume material
  • Holds a 3.85 out of 5 average from more than 3,000 Fragrantica votes, solid rather than exceptional within the Yara family
  • First flanker to TikTok mega-hit Yara, launched to ride the original's viral wave
  • Turns the Yara DNA into literal candy: strawberry bonbons over vanilla musk
  • The turquoise bottle became a collect-them-all companion piece to Yara's pink on social media

Spray the heavier scent first, then the lighter one on top. Start with two scents — more than three quickly becomes muddled. Always test on skin first.

AI Review Summary

Synthesised from fragrance data

Yara Candy opens with a fizzy burst of strawberry and sugary candy that somehow avoids feeling one-dimensional, thanks to a champagne-like effervescence that keeps things light and playful rather than cloying. As it dries down, the sweetness shifts into something creamier — think strawberry milkshake — before settling into smooth vanilla and clean musk that linger comfortably on skin for 8+ hours. The sillage is moderate to heavy, so a light hand goes a long way, making it ideal for a summer brunch, casual date, or a relaxed braai where you want to smell delicious without overwhelming the room. It's a genuinely crowd-pleasing gourmand that suits anyone who loves sweet, feminine fragrances with real personality — and at under R1,000, the performance-to-price ratio is hard to argue with.
