Elixir is Roja Dove's amber floral for women, and one of the few things in his catalogue that leads with fruit. Bergamot opens, briefly, and then Rose de Mai and Grasse jasmine arrive carrying raspberry and peach, before orris pulls the whole thing back to something cool and powdery for the drydown. Evening wear, cold weather, and no South African stockist: this one comes in from London.
Elixir Pour Femme is Roja Dove's amber floral for women, released in 2019 and still listed in the house's current range. Dove talked his way into Guerlain in 1981, stayed close to two decades, became the first Global Ambassador the house had ever appointed from beyond the founding family and picked up the title Professeur de Parfums along the way. His Haute Parfumerie opened on the sixth floor of Harrods in 2004 and his own house followed in Mayfair in 2011, where the stated approach is fragrance built like jewellery, from the most expensive naturals he can get his hands on.
One thing trips people up constantly: Elixir is a feminine line only. There is no Roja Elixir Pour Homme, whatever a reseller's label might say. The men's fragrance usually being looked for under that name is Elysium Pour Homme, which is a different composition altogether.
The opening here is a single stroke of bergamot, unusually spare for a house that normally stacks its top notes, and it does not linger. The heart is where the money went: Rose de Mai and Grasse jasmine, lifted into something jammy by raspberry and peach, with ylang-ylang, geranium, heliotrope, violet and lily of the valley filling in around them. Underneath sit violet leaf, cinnamon, cedarwood, cashmere wood, sandalwood, orris, ambrette, vanilla and musk. The orris is the note that keeps it from turning into a dessert, giving the drydown a cool, powdery spine that reads more grown-up than the fruit in the heart suggests.
It is an evening fragrance and a cold-weather one. On a Highveld winter night it holds beautifully; in Durban humidity the florals can crowd. Published descriptions agree on a long-lasting, powdery trail, which is what parfum-strength Roja usually delivers, so one or two sprays is a full dose rather than a starting point.
Worth knowing before you go looking: Roja has no South African distribution, and we could not find a local retailer carrying Elixir Pour Femme. The house sells it direct from London in three strengths, with the 75ml Eau de Parfum at GBP 255 and the 50ml Parfum at GBP 420 as at August 2026, while the 100ml Essence de Parfum turns up at international retailers around USD 420 to 490.
